Dell Precision M6300 with D/Dock Docking station - docking station ceases to work with PCI video installed

We have a Dell Precision M6300 laptop that has been recently connected to a Dell D/Dock Docking station ( also known as an expansion station).  Peripherals work fine with the exception of the external monitors ( two Dell 1901FP monitors) and the resolution they are providing.

The laptop can display 1920x1200 while the max resolution for the monitors appears to be 1280x1024 (although the monitors were running a much higher resolution when connected to another desktop in the shop -- why, I don't understand).  Video card on the desktop in question was a dual-link card which was apparently allowing the higher resolution.

With that, we talked with Dell Technical support and were told that the M6300 could drive higher resolutions IF we purchased a D/Dock Expansion station and then installed a dual-link video card in the available PCI slot.

Now for the real issue.  When the PCI card is installed, the docking station immediately loses power when the docking station power button is pressed -- and with the laptop in the docked position.

Is this a defective video card?  Defective docking station?

Does anyone have this scenario working and what is the highest resolution you are seeing?
