Best practice is to create and dispatch and event with the int you need to pass back but this method will still work fine.<br />

I have tried that and it gives an error. &nbsp;When there are trace statements in actionscript code that is in or called by flex module, where does the trace statement write to. &nbsp;Maybe if I could see the error, it might help. &nbsp;I know that it returns an error, but do not know which one, by stepping through the individual statement in debugger. &nbsp;I think it may be because my parent module is actually a child module of a bigger application where my module is trying to run. &nbsp;Does the parentApplication just look up one level to get the parent of the current module?

Run the project in debug mode. &nbsp;The trace outputs to the console in FlexBuilder but you need to be in debug mode to see it.<br />

Put a debug point in the child on a button click somewhere. &nbsp;Then look at all the properties and you can see it. &nbsp;Also as you want to pass back your code would be more like:<br />

I did this and the parent application is the outermost application and not my parent module. &nbsp;Any other suggestions on how to return an integer from child to parent, and the child is not a popup, but is displayed (called) in the parent along with several other child modules.
