There may be some system file damaged. The issue is in the OS. Try to run repair install to put your system file back normal. Repair install will not affect your server configuration or application. Check this guide to do it. The guide may be written for XP, but it's the same for Windows server. Don't forget to reinstall service pack (current one)<br />

Try to boot in safe mode to see if everything is normal under safe mode. Like I said, your server is infected, you may need to reinstall OS.<br />

I applied KB967715 to a Windows 2003 standard server, upon reboot there was a vds.exe error. Looking at the drives from the windows explorer view, the drive letters were incorrect. I opened disk management and there were no volumes displayed. I uninstalled the update and rebooted the server again and still the same. The error message was in the Microsoft knowledgebase with a hotfix. I applied the hotfix and rebooted again. I have also applied a firmware upgrade for the msa. If I disable vds.exe, the volumes show up unlettered. Does anyone have any help?

Does anyone have any suggestions for fixing the vds.exe problem explained in Microsoft hotfix 949001 - the hotfix did not do it.
