SANSurfer Express not recognizing subsystem?

I have a SAN setup using 2 - HP MSA1000 controllers (for redundancy).  Recently, I have lost the ability to use SANSurfer Express to manage the disks on the SAN.

When I launch the application, I receive the following error:

"The application cannot run. No storage subsystem was detected! Please make sure the subsystem is properly connected or no other SANsurfer Express is active on the SAN."

I have had this problem now for a couple of months.  I have 6 servers accessing the SAN.  All servers have been rebooted.  I have also powered off all servers, and just turned one on.  So, this appears to not be a "software already in use" type of error.  Any help would be great.

I can access the MSA1000 controller using the HP ACU without issue.  The problem is that the HP Array Config. utility does not support large arrays >500GB.

We are running this on HP ML320 Servers, running Windows 2003 SP2, with QLogic fibre cards.

are you sure that you have typed the error message exactly as it appears (google says there are zero pages on the web that it indexes with that error message)?

ASKER
Yes. The error is exact, including punctuation and case.  I looked on Google as well.  That is why I posted on here.  There is nothing out there.  I was hoping to find someone on here with a similar experience.

have you tried unistalling and reinstalling SANsurfer Express?

ASKER
Yes.  I have removed the SANsurfer and reinstalled.  I have updated the QLogic drivers for the fibre controllers too.

Does qlogic or anyone else provide a hardware diagnostic utility that can let you know if your hardware is failing?
dave4dl

this website says that san surfer PRO has "robust diagnostic and troubleshooting capabilities":

another way to attack this is to think back to what changed between when it worked and when it stopped working.

If you can think of anything that changed try to undo that change to see if you can get it to start working.

If truly nothing changed you probably have a hardware failure (in which case you may have a more catastrophic failure in the future).

I am having exact same issue. Anyone with a solution?

I think i provided an answer
Experts Exchange is like having an extremely knowledgeable team sitting and waiting for your call. Couldn't do my job half as well as I do without it!

I suggest you accept the last comment i made ending with "If truly nothing changed you probably have a hardware failure (in which case you may have a more catastrophic failure in the future)."

I don't agree. We do not know if anything remotely helpful was posted, as long as the asker does not tell us. The posted comments are pretty generic, and I cannot see the value for them to remain in the knowledgebase. Hence my CV recommendation of Delete/no refund.
