if you are talking about the files in System Volume information, then I don't think those can be backed up as they are dynamic and OS does not release a lock on those files. hence access will be denied when trying to make a copy of when backing up.

Even when using VSS? VSS can snap open files.<br />

I mean to say that these files are hot and cannot be made a copy of. There is no way we can backup these files. There need to be API's which could grab the files and provide them to the backup software but as far as I know, there are no API's designed to backup these files.

If I did a full server restore with Backup Exec 11d wouldn't it also restore the Shadow Copies?<br />

I have a Windows 2003 R2 STD file server that has the data drive configured to create 3 snapshots daily and allotted 40GB for Shadow Copy.<br />

My problem is when I run PerfectDisk to defrag the data drive, it overwrites my Shadow Copy snapshots even with it configured to store 40GB. So I have not defragged the drive in a long time, but now access to the files are getting slower that I need to defrag. I would like to defrag the server and hope there's a way to restore my Shadow Copy snapshot using Backup Exec 11d.<br />
