you need to put the sata drivers .inf file(s) onto a floppy disk and hit F6 when install says "Hit F6 for SCSI/RAID drivers"

Just want to make sure your HW supports Windows Server OS. A lot of times, if you try to install Server OS on a desktop machine, you need to update the bios to server's bios. Otherwise, it won't work.

sredmond,

I don't think he's got that far to hit F6.... He is stuck at the beginning.

You are right, I am stuck at the begining with a message that says, "Reboot and select proper Boot device or insert Boot media in a selected Boot device and press a key".

If you can boot from XP, but not Server 2003, chance the hardware does not support Server 2003. You may have to reflash the bios that supports 2003 to get it installed.

Just did a bios flash to update CPU microcode, would there be a different BIOS for using the board for a server??

quick questions what type of server model and brand are you using.  If you are using hp you could try installing the server 2003 from the actual HP Proliant Foundation cds.

I have built this machine myself.  I have built dozens of office & gaming machines.  My buddy is a teacher and wants a server to run 45 terminals for a computer lab.  I am refurbishing old P3 legacy boxs installing Ubuntu Linux as the OS's.  This server setup is an MSI X48 Intel M/B with 4gig's of DDR3 RAM, a 3.0 gig Core 2 duo Quad 45nm, all SATA drives and a floppy!!

I had an issue with the CD ROM drive when loading the SBS 2003 server that I used, and I got around the issue by loading the operating system off of an external USB DVD drive.  Once the operating system was loaded onto the computer, the drive worked normally as expected.  I know that it isn't a solution, but it is a potential workaround to get you up and running.
