Norton Ghost has stopped working properly. The Ghost backup completes ~95% of the backup and hangs indefinitely. The only solution to release Ghost resources seems to be to reboot the computer. Ghost has worked in the past. I'm using Ghost version 14.0.0.24815 to hot image a Vista C partition to an external USB hard drive.

Try checking the drives for errors, and check the destination drive to make sure it has enough room for the new image.

I tested the external drive for errors and found none. Purging and rebuilding the ghost jobs seems to have resolved this issue.
Overall I find Ghost v14 to be a problem. The program does not inspire confidence, the technical support is poor, and booting to the recovery CD does not work for all computers. I don't recommend relying exclusively upon this Ghost to bail you out if disaster strikes. Further I believe a full disaster recovery test should be completed on each Ghost installation. Just my opinion - for what it's worth.
