Gmail error: UNKNOWN PARAMETER VALUE

1) Recently some of the email attachments I receive are named simply as UNKNOWN PARAMETER VALUE (no filename extension).

2) This applies for any file type (Powerpoint, Word, PDF, WMV, etc). If I save the file and attach the correct filename extension, I am able to open the document with no problem.

3) I also noticed that the problem tends to occur with senders with Yahoo accounts

4) Finally, I own an Yahoo account myself. If I configure Google to automatically forward my emails to Yahoo and open the same email from my Yahoo Mail, the attachments appear named correctly on the Yahoo account!

This is quite a cryptic error. Any ideas?

How do you receive your mails, Outlook, TBird, webmail?

Do you have an anti-virus installed that might be the culprit?

In Gmail's web-interface, I've had a lot of attachments and none with a problem.

Hello sjef.

First of all, let me just make it clear that the problem only seems to happen with emails sent from Yahoo accounts.

The problem is present no matter how I access my Gmail account (ie, using any web browser or using a desktop client like Outlook or Thunderbird).

However, as I mentioned before, if I access the same message from my Yahoo account (for which I have Gmail configured to automatically forward every incoming message), then the attachment opens perfectly.

I don't have the slightest idea of why this is happening. Also worth mentioning that this problem didn't happened until about a month ago.

I think it was some problem between Gmail and Yahoo. I disabled my auto-forward rule from Gmail to Yahoo and after that things seem to have normalized.
