There really isn't any way to help you with this as it is a service level repair. The protection used on modern laptops is not easily circumvented as you can see. In essence you need the original password.<br />

Aside from hardware hacking the computer, service level is going to be the way to go. &nbsp;The supervisor (SVP) password is stored in a chip called ATMEL 24RF08.It can not be reset by disconnecting the BIOS battery or shorting any jumper. It has to be read in order to decifer the password.<br />

There is another solution if you just don't want to take it to be serviced...<br />

I wouldn't recommend doing this though unless you are handy with a soldering iron and understand electronics and serial communication.

You have all important info above. You WILL need manufacturer's help in this matter, if you can't get the info from the seller (In a proper seller - buyer relationship you'd be able to claim that you didn't get the goods you paid for... &nbsp;as the thing won't work sithout a poassword).<br />

You will have to determine if it is a BIOS startup password or a hard drive password. The BIOS password is related to the system (the computer as such) but a HD password stays with the drive and you'll never get past that without knowing the pw. A new HD could solve such a problem.<br />

Im pulling my hair out, I bought this ibm think pad R52, and its got a bios password and maybe hardrive password on it that i have no clue what it would be. i tried calling the people i bought it from and of coarse no answer for weeks now. i need to use this notebook for college, and im broke and cant afford to have ibm do it for me whats a way for me to reset this password, or a master password, or physical techniques to help me?
