Format Firebird date to yyymmdd

I am running a query to a Firebird Linked Server in SQL 2005.

I am trying to run a where clause that returns all the records that are equal to 'current_date'.
my issue is that the date field in the table is stored in the following format: yyymmdd
(I also believe its stored as an integer based on the below error.)
and 'current_date' returns yyyy-mm-dd

which gives me the following error:
[Firebird]conversion error from string "2009-02-27"
select top 1 * from openquery(Firebird, 'Select tr_time
from transactionreport
where tr_date = current_date
order by tr_time desc')
