It's not an OS patch. &nbsp;Let me explain more in detail.<br />

I have multiple VMs in production and I have additions to those VMs (OS and application software additions). &nbsp;Rather than sending the entire VM that has been updated into the production environment, I'd like to send a differential update to the VM as a patch.<br />

Is this possible?

Than it would be is easier to do them directly in the VM itself on the other side.

Look in to VMWare's replication services if you do not already have it. &nbsp;It can replicate whole VMs or just the changes to a secondary site which is what it sounds like you have.<br />

If you are running Enterprise edition VI 3 or you have purchased the VC and optiions you can use the updater.<br />
Personally I don't see VM updater being overly useful for much more than patching the ESX host servers. It can patch both Linux and Windows but it's not as easy to use as the Microsoft or Lunux tools available.<br />
If you don't own the VC you can download individual patches from VMware. The patches are accompanied by instructions for installation.<br />
There is an open source project for updating many of the Linux distros, Depending on what you using will depend on what method you would use. Redhat has an excellent pay service.<br />
From &nbsp;a Windows perspective it would simply be silly to not utilise the free tools Microsoft supply. This would be WSUS. It's an excellent management tool for patch deployment, reporting and auditing of Microsoft Operating Systems and applications.

How do I make patches to VMs in VI3?

VMware, a software company founded in 1998,  was one of the first commercially successful companies to offer x86 virtualization. The storage company EMC purchased VMware in 1994. Dell Technologies acquired EMC in 2016. VMware’s parent company is now Dell Technologies.
