Tiles left navigation menu adjustable height

Is there a way to set the height of a Tiles left menu jsp file so that if the content in the main content area gets long the left menu adjusts its height so that main content elements do not shift to the left?

The left navigation menu is a Tiles jsp file that is included in the main jsp file. It seems to have a fixed length and the text in the main content area extends beyond the end of the left menu and then shifts to the left since I am using a value for the text's left margin. I do not know when the table that is in the main content area is going to extend beyond the end of the left menu. I would like to extend the left menu to the bottom of the web page so the shifting will not occur. I do not have access to the page code for a couple of days. When I do I will attach some of the code as more information to help you out.
