That was one of the first things I've tried. It does not make any difference.<br />

In fact, I have 3 other computers in the room with me. They are all running XP PRO SP3. I have the option to share all the attached hard drives on all of them, even with &quot;Use simple file sharing&quot; checked or with it unchecked. &nbsp;I do not know who started this rumor that checking or unchecking &quot;Use simple file sharing&quot; makes any difference. Maybe that was true way back with SP-1, but with SP-3 it makes no difference at all.<br />

Sounds as though you need to take ownership of the drive and its contents. &nbsp;Either that or you have inadvertantly restricted your access level to it with your permissions. &nbsp;Try taking ownership of the entire drive first. And note that you can NOT do that without disabling simple file sharing. &nbsp;Right click the drive and select properties, then Security, Advanced and then Ownership. Take ownership and just to see if it corrects your problem, add EVERYONE to your group policy permissions with full control. &nbsp;Report back with the results

This is a large workstation with four (4) internal HDs and four (4) external HDs for a total of eight (8) hard-drives. All of them are showing exactly the same thing as mentioned above. Even the two of them that are already being shared.<br />

It is like something that allows sharing...maybe a registry setting...has been trashed or deleted??<br />
<br />
I've uninstalled all anti-virus software and turned off Windows Firewall. I've looked at all the &quot;Services&quot; to see if any were NOT running that may anything to do with accessing the drives...No luck so far.<br />

Any other suggestions?<br />

First, File and print sharing for MS networks has been up and running all this time.<br />

However, as a last ditch effort, I disabled my Local area connection and ran Network Setup Wizard. It found my network card and installed another Local Area Connection. I rebooted the computer and File and Print sharing was working and darned if the Server Service now show up in the Services listing...it had mysteriously disappeared, just like blackviper said it could.<br />

Now I can &quot;Share&quot; all the folders on any of the hard-drives, however, I can NOT share the &quot;whole&quot; hard drive, such as &quot;D:&quot;...only the individual folders in D:???<br />
<br />
I have turned &quot;Simple File Sharing&quot; on and off and it makes no difference. I still can not share any of the 8 hard drives on this machine. Something I have always been able to do up until this started happening last week.<br />

This is driving me nuts!! &nbsp;Stinking M$. How the heck did they take over the whole computing world putting out something that can't be fixed by even some of the brightest folks around.<br />

I know when you try to share an entire drive it gives you a warning about it, something to the effect of &quot;To protect your computer from unauthorized access, sharing the root of a drive is not recommended. If you understand the risk but still want to share the root of the drive, click here&quot;. &nbsp;Did it give you that message? &nbsp;Then what happened, exactly how did sharing the drive not work?
