Thank you for the info. Nothing was removed or uninstalled that I know of. &nbsp;A few windows updates. The drives worked one day and then stop somewhere within a 2 week period. &nbsp;I will try your suggestion later today when I can get onto this computer and get back to you.

This is a software issue with windows (not hardware) and it happens when the drivers for the ROMs become corrupted in windows. There is no super easy solution for it. System restore will fix this problem, but you should try other things first. First try to uninstall the drivers from device manager and restart the computer (its the easiest thing to try but windows will most likely load the same bad drivers after restart, hardly ever works but try anyway). The next thing that I have been success full with is to delete the drivers from registry (this will prevent windows from loading the same corrupted drivers back). BACK UP YOUR REGISTRY :) then see the directions in this FAQ: <a href="http://www.dslreports.com/faq/14560" rel="ugc">http://www.dslreports.com/faq/14560</a>&nbsp;. They are telling you to delete all non-microsoft and non-signed drivers ..do this first if it does not help, or you don't have any then wipe what you have the same way shown.<br />

You should back up your data before you try any of this because it could kill windows. Worst case restore comp and it will fix this.<br />

I am working on a Windows XP Pro SP3 computer where both the DVD and CD drives are no longer showing up in My Computer of Disk manager. &nbsp;They were both working on 2/15/09 and disapeared sometime after that. &nbsp;They both show up in the BIOS and both have a yellow ! in device manager. &nbsp;Just to make sure it is was not a hardware issue, I tried a new DVD drive as well as new IDE cable and have the same issue.
