Colors change when using Remote Desktop

Am using Remote Desktop very successfully but with one major problems: there are color changes.  these changes happen with web pages and PDF files.  it is a real problem with the PDF files where it seems to change font foreground and background colors and makes the document illegible.  often the background color is black so you can't read anything.  the coloring may change and sometimes goes away when the PDF file is rezoomed or scrolled.  a screen shot example is attached.  there is nothing wrong with the pdf document - it just looks this way when viewed via remote desktop.
this does not happen with Word and Excel documents.
