Dell 6400. will not start. Only green power light dimly lights

I have a Dell 6400 laptop. When I press the power switch nothing happens except that the green power indicator light shows a dim light. Plugging in the adapter with the battery in or out does not make any difference, the light remains lit. If I power on without the adapter plugged in the light shows and then goes out after a few seconds.I have reseated the RAM. If I press the test button on the back of the battery all 5 green indicator light show on the battery.
Can anyone help

It is either a bad motherboard or bad RAM. Do you have any other memory you could test in it? Maybe even try just one stick at a time.

captainmorgank; It is not under warranty so I am afraid that a new motherboard would be a big part of the price of a new one.

phungus69; ther are two 512MB chip of RAm. I have removed one stick at a time and switched between the different slots. I can get RAM that I know is right however and I will try that.

I will post back

Thank you both

One thing you can do is take out ALL the ram and see if it gives you a beep error code or anything.

Thanks phunqus. No not even a beep error code when I removed the RAM.

It seems like a electricity circuits problem.... Did anything happened lately to where the laptop was hooked up ? I mean like Power went off and back on right away?

Have you tried to take off the battery and try to use a different charger and cable with the laptop?

ASKER
moh10ly; Yes i did rmove the battery and tried a different charger and cable that I know works ok. Still no luck
