HP Laserjet 4100N stops printing mid job

We have a HP Laserjet 4100N.  Occasionaly, about once a day, when the user is printing, the printer will stop mid print.  The print queue will say print failed.  The printer console will flash between ready and datarecieved.  The printer did print what looked like an error page once.  The error does occur only when the user is printing a certain docuement.  However, that printer isnt used enough to print other documents to narrow it down to the one document that is causing the problem.

It reads
Error: timeout
OFFENDING COMMAND: timeout
STACK: 2003

It is a network attached printer using a PCL 6 driver.  I did try to set it up as a locally attached TCP printer using the Post Script driver.  This didnt prove any better.  Any ideas what is causing this problem.

I don't know the answer to your question.

But I do know that the error message which you refer to is a PostScript error message.

That explains that, but I still get the error when using a PCL 6 driver.

Well, you certainly shouldn't!

If you do, this implies that (for whatever reason) the printer thinks that it is receiving a PostScript stream, not a PCL XL (PCL6) one.

... and the 'timeout' part probably indicates that, having started a PostScript job, the printer is awaiting more input, terminated by an end-of-job sequence, but that this has not been detected within the (configurable?) timeout period.

I mean that the printer still stops printing mid job even on a PCL 6 driver.
