Outlook 2007 Check names Issue

Hello,

We have a problem with check names in Outlook 2007.  We have all of our "contact folders set to be used as address books.  However, Outlook 2007 seems to ONLY "checks names for the first entry in the list at Address Book >Tools >Options.

For instance, our public "Company Contacts" folder is listed first, and user "Contacts" folder is listed second.  If we try to send an email to someone who is only in the Contacts, outlook "Check Names" function can't find that person's email address.  Then we have to browse through the address book to show Outlook who the contact is.

Any idea how to get it to work?

So under the Addressing settings, under When SEnding  Mail portion of it, you have your Company Contacts listed first and then have personal Contacts next. And when attempting to use a name thats not listed in the Company Contacts but listed in personal Contacts, it does not show up for you? The only real way to 'fix' this is to list Personal Contacts as the first place to check. Or you can modify the option that says, list this line first and move that to personal contacts so when doing the check name it will still default to company contacts but when creating the email you can click on the Address Book and it will show by default personal contacts. Make it a bit easier anyway.

If I attempt to use a name that is only in the Personal Contacts, it shows up. But if the same first name is there in both the GAL and the personal contacts only the GAL names show up. The option to list the Contacts as the first address book cannot be used as there are multiple personal contacts folders.

i think you may be asking a bit too much of the programing if i read ya right. So you want to make sure your hitting the GAL first, unless the contact is in both the GAL and Personal contacts and at that point you want it to use the personal contacts listing?

Not quite right, if the first name is in both the GAL and contacts, I want both to be listed in the Check names box so that I can choose either one.

ah i see. Well in that case, from my  understanding the only way to do this is to Cache the contact at least once. So if you have a Bob Smith in the GAL and a Bob Miller in Personal contacts, you have to email Bob Miller from the address book at least once....at that point when you go to send a email and type in Bob, its going to look at its cached emails and see Bob Miller in there as well as Bob Smith from the GAL. I understand what your asking but im not sure of anyway to make that happen. Kinda a tedious and roundabout way to get this to work im afraid.

This makes me curious as to why there is an option in Outlook to list the order of contacts to check names from.

Thanks bahpoopie, i guess Outlook needs further fine tuning! Anyways at present looks like there is no other option rather than using the Show more Names while doing a check names to select further address books.

thanks.
