storing date range in DB ?

i am planning to develope a small site like a rental equipment, people need to see the items online and be able to book them in advance or see if a product is avaialble when they want ... whats the best way to store the information ? how can i store date range?
have one columns for Date renting and one for date returning ??? can it then figure out all the dates in between?
