Microsoft wireless receiver (for keyboard and mouse) 700 v2.0 stopped working
This is a wireless keyboard/mouse system that is only a couple of weeks old. It just stopped working. I have replaced the batteries. It's supposed to be PnP hardware - it did not come with any install drivers. Device Manager is reporting the USB as an "Unknown device." It says the driver is not installed but when I try to update it, it says it already has the most up to date driver. Microsoft does not have drivers specific to this device on their download website. I have tried disabling/enabling, uninstalling/installing, plugging the Receiver USB plug into different plugs. I can't get it to work and I have tried this on two different machines with the same results. The receiver power light is on and the mouse optical light is on. The only indicator I see on the keyboard is a low-battery light but it is not lit.

Thanks in advance for your assistance, Jack.

By the way, you may want to completely remove the drivers associated with this device:

What is the make/model?

Never mind.  I see the info listed at the top.

I neglected to mention that I had already tried syncing both the keyboard and mouse with the receiver. They still didn't work.

Yep, tried that, too, before I posted. I pointed it to the INF folder and it did not say anything about the usbccgp.sys file. Still would not work.

Have you tried removing the device through the advanced tab mentioned previous?  ; )

Yep, I removed the device thru the advanced tab. Both computers I tried to install this on are Dell Optiplex GX620's. The computer it failed on is running XP Pro SP2. The computer I also tried to install it on is running XP Pro SP3.

That was going to be my next suggestion.  It sounds like it is dead.  Time to replace.

Guess I would submit that with the trouble-shooting that was provided, it narrowed down what could be wrong and yielded that replacing the device was the only option left.

The troubleshooting provided wasn't anything that I hadn't already done and we decided to replace the hardware before it was suggested here.

A peripheral device is defined as a computer device, such as a keyboard or printer, that is not part of the essential computer (i.e., the memory and microprocessor). These auxiliary devices are intended to be connected to the computer and used in conjunction with it. Examples of external peripherals include mouse, keyboard, printer, monitor, external Zip drive or scanner, while internal peripherals include CD-ROM drive, CD-R drive or internal modem. Today's new devices, such as tablets, smartphones and wearable computing devices are considered peripherals as they can be connected and used on a computer system. The difference, however, is that these devices can run independently of the computer system.
