Server 2008 Standard Ram limitations using VMware

If I am running a server with 8GB RAM on Windows Server 2008 Standard (which is restricted to 4GB RAM), will I only be able to use 4GB RAM between any vmware/hyper-v machines that I am running on that server?

I'm pretty sure this is the case, but I wanted to verify with Experts before giving any definitive answers.

Appreciate the answers and the alternate solutions. Extra points to za for the VMWare suggestion, as I am likely to use that solution.
