Email In CRM not working after moving SQL 2005 database to new server
Hi Experts,
I just moved my CRM 3.0 database to a new SQL 2005 server. Everything appears to work fine except I cannot send an email from within CRM when I open an individual client and choose send email.
Is there somewhere on the new SQL server or CRM install that I need to change settings so I can send email. I get the following generic error when trying to send an email.
"An error occured, for more information contact your administrator". This error is from within the CRM website sending an email under a contact.
Thanks

First of all i'd check the event logs on the server itself to see if there is any more information available.

Nothing in the event logs under application or system on either server.
Maybe this will help: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910242/en-us

I am not sure that this is the issue. I have exactly the same CRM install as previous. And email worked prior to moving the SQL database to a new SQL server. I followed microsoft kb 917948 to move the SQL database?

I just received another error for the first time as below:
Record Unavailable.
The record that you are requesting is currently unavailable. Either the record was not found or you do not have sufficient security permissions to view it.
I closed and reopened the contact record, and the original error occurred again on second attempt to send an email to an individual contact.
"An error occured, for more information contact your administrator". This error is from within the CRM website sending an email under a contact.
Note: the direct email to several customers seems to work fine. It is just when i drill down to an individual customer record and send a customised personal email that this error occurs.
Please advise.

so you followed http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917948 to move the databases. CRM is still on the old server? (Did you do Step 10, or did you take the DBs offline?)
Section 5 is particularly important to make sure all the groups have the correct rights.
I would definitely go through this one more time and verify the steps from 5-9. Obviously you are just looking to make sure all the steps completed, not re-doing them. Did you IISRESET and restart all the CRM services after this?
So, some emails WILL go, but not others? If you can reproduce (after the above), you should establish tracing (preferably right before the error would occur) and then stop the tracing after the error. Easiest is to go to http://blogs.msdn.com/benlec and go to the Download section and download the CRMDiagTurbo tool (the one for 3.0). Run that and it should let you one click turn on the Dev Errors and the Tracing.

I did not do step 10. I wanted to leave the database there in case there was some problem. Can I just stop the SQL server and SQL agent service instead for the moment?
Will 10(b) be covered if I just stop the services and put them to disable as above?
I will reboot both servers to see if there is any better result.

Well, you should be able to right click each DB and take them offline. and yes 10b should be covered if you do that.

Cool. You were correct. Disabled SQL on the old server, and the emails are now sending... Thank you kindly.
