Intermitant delayed delivery messages Exchange 2007
We are getting delayed delivery messages on our SBS 2008/Exchange 2007 box. Most users are not having any issues and mail is working as expected. Some mails are getting a delayed delivery error. 4 of the 15 users have reported the problem.
We have checked the queues and the messages seem to have been sent. There do not seem to be any DNS problems
Is it possible that the delay/ timeout for sending the error message is set to too short an interval and if so can this be changed?

Investigation shows that the cause is a failure of DNS resolution. It seems that exchange is for some reason not able to resolve domain names. Restarting the DNS services on the SBS2008 box and retrying the delayed messages clears the queue. However this is temporary and the problem reoccurs after a couple of days. There does not seem to be any problem with DNS for web browsing so it looks like the issues is confined to exchange.
