Under configuration then click on security profile. You should have SSH server 22 in the list at the top. If you dont then click on properties and tick the SSH server box to enable.

Also you NTP client should be running and configured to an external time source. It is very important to have accurate synchronised time within a virtual environment.

OK I have all the Virtual machines syncing the with NTP time server ...I restarted the SSH service from the command line on the esx server....same issue..it looks like all services restarted fine...I rebooted the VI machine for good measure<br />

I am assuming you are using ESX 3.5 and not ESX3.5i. The only other reason it would not work is if there is still a line in the ssh configuration file that needs to be un-commented. You also can not connect using root by default, unless this setting is changed in the SSH configuration file.

OK that is your issue. 3.5i does not support SSH (by default). If you follow these instructions you will be able to enable SSH on your server.<br />

I am trying to be able to SSH into my VMWARE ESX Server via Putty on port 22 and so far I have had no luck....I have enabled ssh by using vi /etc/inetd.conf and removing the # before SSH and then saving the file and then ran the /sbin/services.sh &nbsp;to restart the management services and this didnt work I also restarted the Vmware Server...I get the following error &nbsp;with putty &quot;Network error: Connection refused&quot; I have restored everything back to default and rebooted &nbsp;I am sure it is something I am overlooking ..thanks in advance<br />
