Symantec EndPoint Security
I had to rebuild my symantec endpoint server today.  All of the clients on the network are still installed and working, but they are not appearing in the Symantec Manager.  Is there a way to register a client with the server.  I have tried pushing a new install out of a workstation and still did not reigster.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

2 ways are possible.

1. Create a package and install it manually to the client that allow to uninstall the local AV client.
STRART > All Programs > Symantec EndPoint Manager > Migration and Deployement Wizard

2. Create an installation package from the EndPoint Management Console and push it to all the unmanaged clients on the network.

I tried both of these suggests and the test computer is still not showing up to be managed.

Have you made a reboot of the computer?
Do you see the groupname that you have give during the wizard in you console?

I did not do the diaster recovery steps because I do not have a back up of the server as described in the article.  I tried to the follow the How to Restore/retain client/server communication, but I can not figure out to apply this new custom install setting to new deployment package

xmachine, thank you for all the links, I ran the sylinkreplacer on my computer and replaced the sylink.xml file with the file created when I created an install package from the newly installed server.  That did not resolve the problem.  Then I replaced the serdef.dat file on my desktop with the newly created serdef.dat file from the new installation package (yes, I stopped and restarted the SMC service).  Neither of these two items worked, my computer is still not registering.

Any other ideas?

OK, I take that make, it worked!   ran the sylinkreplacer on my computer and replaced the sylink.xml file with the file created when I created an install package from the newly installed server.  That did not resolve the problem.  Then I replaced the serdef.dat file on my desktop with the newly created serdef.dat file from the new installation package

It took about 30 minutes for the newly homed client to appear in management console.  Thank you so much for the help.

Security is the protection of information systems from theft or damage to the hardware, the software, and the information on them, as well as from disruption or misdirection of the services they provide. The main goal of security is protecting assets, and an asset is anything of value and worthy of protection. Information Security is a discipline of protecting information assets from threats through safeguards to achieve the objectives of confidentiality, integrity, and availability or CIA for short. On the other hand, disclosure, alteration, and disruption (DAD) compromise the security objectives.
