Everything in Sites and Services is configured correctly.<br />

Server A = DC/GC/Schema Master Etc<br />
Server B = Exchange 2007 ... These 2 servers are local, connected to a gigabit backbone<br />
RemoteSrv A = 1 Remote server, across a vpn. &nbsp;it too is a GC, but hold NO OTHER roles. &nbsp; the only reason it exists is to authenticate people at the remote site.<br />

Why Exchange 2007 is picking my remote server I'm not sure. &nbsp;Perhaps it thinks the local GC is too busy?<br />
<br />
Any other ideas? &nbsp;This is starting to drive me nuts.... or maybe I'm just being paranoid :P<br />

Exchange 2007 will use the first server to respond. Once it has started using that server it doesn't let it go. However I would still be looking at the sites and services configuration to ensure that it is correct. The two servers need to be separated, different subnets etc. <br />

Yes ... they are on separate subnets.<br />

Servers A and B: 172.16.30.X &nbsp;subnet: 255.255.255.0 &nbsp; &nbsp;(I did not set the original network up)<br />
RemoteSrv A: 172.16.31.X subnet: 255.255.255.0<br />

If I look in the resource monitor, under Network, there's a handful of exchange services connected to the remote server:<br />

When you mention subnets --- are you saying I should setup subnets in Sites and Services?<br />

This could also explain why some people are authenticating across the vpn also. &nbsp; Maybe I can kill 2 birds with 1 stone.<br />

I would like to note that this is a not a parent/child domain setup. &nbsp; I just put a GC in the remote office to auth users and if the home office ever went down they could still work.<br />

Yep, that's what is going on.<br />

Here is what I did to fix it, in case anyone else comes across this issue:<br />
<br />
In Sites and Services I renamed DEFAULT-FIRST-SITE to Home Office. &nbsp;Created a new site called Remote Office.<br />
<br />
I then moved the remote server, which is a GC and DC to the new Remote Office Site. &nbsp; I created 2 subnets, assigned them to the sites.<br />
<br />
That's it. &nbsp;Doing a get-exchangeserver|fl from the Power Shell shows the originating server being local now.<br />

If I do a "get-exchangeserver |fl" from the PS, it tells me the originating server is a server that is across my vpn.

Also going into the console, under Server configuration.  Highlighting Mailbox and rightclicking my exchange server, under System Settings it lists my 2 dc's.  The DC that is across the VPN is listed first.
