Exchange 2003 and Symantec/Veritas Backup Exec 12.5

Hi All,

i was wondering if anyone has seen or is familiar with a step-by-step guide for setting up Backup Exec 12.5 to do backups of Exchange 2003. I've been trying to follow the following two links, but I'm having difficulty:

http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/249456.htm and
http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/266074.htm

...I can see the exchange server in the list when i go to add the server to a selection list. It lists the Drives, address folder, MS Information Store, etc. It doesn't list the mailboxes. When I try to expand the tree next to MS Information store, it lists First Storage Group, then mailbox Store and Public Folder store underneath that.

...am I missing something, or this setup going to backup all of my mailboxes? It's been unclear as to whether or not it shows the mailboxes individually, or if they're included in the Mailbox store.

Thanks for any and all help you can provide.

Hi,

what you are doing is correct. you will only see mailboxes there when you do a restore. Your selections as per your screen shot are ok.

I recommend not using vss when backing up exchange 2003 as this will prevent the use of the recovery storage group.

As for a complete step by step guide, the settings you have will work. Just need to confirm how you back up, either vss or not, depends on how you can restore.
