Cannot Install Windows XP Service Pack 3 (KB936929) for Windows XP Pro

I have been trying to update my husband's Toshiba laptop, but I cannot install Windows XP Service Pack 3 (KB936929). At first the error message I got was the the OS was not validated, so I searched for a fix for that on the Microsoft site, found it and validated the software. So, I don't know what the problem is. I cannot update his Microsoft Office either. I do have Norton 360 installed, is that a problem. Will disabling it fix this? ANd if so, can you walk me through that process? Can anyone help?

Thanks.

I am also getting an error message from a website he needs to log into:

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'

[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] '(unknown)' is not a valid path. Make sure that the path name is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file resides.

/pgusers/inc/jobs.inc, line 17

Is this related to my initial problem?
First, What service pack are is XP up to. Press {win key + pause break } and it will give you the computer info, along with Service pack version.

Second, are you installing the update from a file or from Windows update. Windows update can provide a more complete update, and the website will tell you drivers you might be missing.

The (Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005') I do not think this is related to your problem. I believe this is related to an open Access database or a web service.

Check with Windows update and see what updates they have for you.

We are running Service Pack 2. I checked that before I tried to download the update. I am trying to install from WIndows Update. It is not working. I have other drivers to be downloaded, but I have to install Service Pack 3 before they can be installed, so they don't even show up on the list.
That is odd I will look into that If it is a valid installation then you should be able to use update.
I know. There was a missing file, legitcheckcontrol.inf, which I replaced and the installation was validated. I don't know why it suddenly disappeared. But I replaced it, and we were good to go. Both Windows XP Pro and Microsoft Office are legit, paid for copies. But every time I try to update it will not do it.
Yes, I did.

Sorry for not answering sooner, I had to go to Washington for a few days. I tried downloading the service pack as a service pack and it would not install it. Now, though I think I may have a problem with the anti-spyware program I am using on his computer...and I think it may be causing my problems. I am uninstalling it now and will try again to update the OS.
