Hello everyone Ill start off with the full story... My Dad's Xp laptop all of a sudden started getting the Stop: C0000135 error. I been Googleing every thing I can think of about it. So far I figured out that it is most likely from upgrading to SP2 without a needed update so it messes up. I also figured out that I need a boot disk. But I all I can find is a floppy boot disk from the windows website. And I'm working on my Vista laptop so I don't have a floppy drive. I also tried the Microsoft Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset to see if that would help but I couldn't open it on my laptop to burn it to a cd to put into my Dad's Xp laptop.
I need some way of getting the winsrv file back working.. Any suggestions?
Ps. I have a external hard drive kit so I can take out my Dad's hard drive and use it as an external hard drive on my laptop so I can modify all the files that would be on my Dad's laptop if need be.

The easiest way is to boot into Safe Mode and reset the system to an earlier restorepoint.
If you can't get into safemode, download ultimate bootcd from here: www.ultimatebootcd.com/
Or you can dowload an Linux bootable cd. Then you can run Linux directly from the cd and edit the files on the Windows partition.
But safemode is the best way to start with.
If nothing above solves your problem, boot from a XP-cd and run "Repair" on the installation.
Hope this will solve your problem!

If you cant get to safe mode and do a restore (keep pressing F8 after bios until a windows boot menu comes up) I would reccomend downloading ERD Commander, burning it and booting into that. It has a very nice and easy wizard, which will let you restore the system to a working state. Just select the restore point from a few days ago when the laptop was working and there you go, it will do the rest for you. Make sure to install SP2 and SP3 from windows update next time, it will have all the needed updates.

You should have no trouble downloading and then burning the ERD iso file I posted the link for on rapidshare on a vista system. You can then boot it on the bad xp system and run a system restore. Make sure you set the bios to boot from cd first.

OK well I got the ERD working, and I tried the System Restore. I asked my Dad what was the day before it all happened and he said the 1st.. So I got it going but when I rebooted to see if it worked the same thing happened, so I went back to try and reset it to an earlier date but it is saying I had to undo the recovery. I tried doing that but once I clicked OK to the "Are you sure you want to do this" box it just exited the System Restore Box and just sat there.

Since you can use the disk as an externaldrive, I would make a backupp of everything you need and just reinstall XP. Since the problem occured after SP2 was installed, it wouldn't suprise me if you just get more errors after a recovery...

True but I just got doing that about a month ago. If need be I will, if I do what should I do to keep it from happening again?
Install both SP2 and SP3. Then install the applications. I talked to a friend a work with who had the same problem a few months back. He tried everything and it ressulted in a reinstallation of XP. He hasn't got any problem today, and it was about four months ago.

Haha ok well I'll see if I can do anything to fix it. I don't have a minidump at the moment but if I its possible to get one using the ERD then let me know how and I'll get you one.
>> I don't have a minidump at the moment but if I its possible to get one using the ERD << what do you mean? you don't need ERD (though it's easy enough)
they are located at windows\minidumps
