Exchange 2003 Pop Connector Event ID 1029

Hey there Experts :)

We have been experiencing this problem with one of our clients since we migrated their server a few months back.
Exchange 2003 is configured as per our other clients servers, only every 15min when the mail schedule runs, we pick up Event ID's as follows: (all from Pop3 Connector)

ID 1019
ID 1023
ID 1036
ID 1029

ID 1029 in particular seems to be the route of the problem.
"Access denied to the mailbox <mailserver> logging on as <global@domain>. Verify the password for the mailbox account, and try again.

there is a "global" account that distributed mail internally through exchange.

We have checked and verified the account details are correct with the mail service provider, we have even changed the password and account name. This whole time we have been able to log onto the web console using the account/password for the global account.

I have digged around on the net and tried a few different things, none have worked.

Need your guys help!!! :D

I found this on the web:

"The problem is based on DNS and a timeout by receiving email via pop3. Just write the IP address and DNS Name of your ISP's mail server in the host file of your SBS2003 and your problem is solved. I did it and haven't anymore error messages in my log file."

Thanks for your input pauloncall!! :D

Found the same solution earlier this morning, no luck though :(

Could it not just be a problem with the ISP somehow, of our +-4 server clients, only this client uses this mail provider... but it was working fine before the SBS 2003 R2 migration...

??

ok, ive checked the section under "configure logging for the Pop3 Connector"

all is exactly as they say, i continued reading underneath on the section titled "Troubleshoot the download process", i am going to work through this document and report back.

many thanks for pointing me to this article!
I solved this by calling the ISP and giving them the following information.
Used CMD, 'telenet pop.clara.net 110' CR, 'user username' eg. user a@b.com CR, 'pass password. CR Error message as per the Event ID's you have reported, will advise that the password is not valid. Called the ISP who advised me the this is an issue on their side on their backend server. I was told that although the web mail worked with the password I had setup for the account, this needed to be changed on their backend server. Within 5 mins all working and no errors in application log.
