Recoverying a hard drive

I have a hard drive that went bad and I need the data off the drive.  I put it into a computer with XP and the computer sees it but is unable to read the drive.  I tried the XP tools in windows to fix the errors with no luck.
Is there another method to retrive the data?

When I had it in the other machine the machine would boot to windows and then start over.  When I tried to get to the hard drive via the command prompt I got this message> cyclic redundancy check.
