Configure Windows Server to be accessible externally

Hi all

Thanks for reading. Firstly, i'm not very good with networking at all so please bear with me.

OK, i have a server running Windows Server 2003, It runs our DHCP and is used mostly as a file share server, however i want to set up an external FTP site on it. it has been given an External IP address, however i cannot access it externally.

I dont even know where to begin to look.

Could someone talk me through setting my server up to do this please or point me in the direction of a useful online resource

Thanks

Apresto

Hi there, thanks for the replies.
Unfortunately i really dont have a clue with networking, i will read into any references you have made which i dont understand, Out network administrator left abruptly so i havent got any handover or anything which makes things alot more difficult.
This is what i DO understand about it, we have 2 NIC's, one named internal, which looks to have a 10. range address, and another NIC names Internet, which is external 213. range.
We have a comms rooms with a patch panel which connects to our BT router in another comms room, which in turn patches to the "holes in the wall" in our office to allow internet access.
I know we shouldnt have this server face the outside world, but it is used to create documents, and i need to make these documentsd accessible by clients to download via a webspage aswell as our staff through our admin systems.
I have already set up the FTP as i would normally via IIS but i cant seem to access it with the IP address:
ftp://213.xxx.xxx.xxx/
Its not really ftp im worried about, its making these things accessible via http
I know i havent answered all of your questions, but thats because i dont understand them. I will do my best to answer them, so if you could elaborate or let me know how to find the answers i will do it
I have upped the question to 500
Thanks again, apresto

If what you want is to make those files available via http, place it in c:/inetpub/wwwroot, the go to the IIS administration console (in Control Panel-Administrative Tools), right click in the default website, choose Properties and in the Directory tab mark Browse Directory, then try accesing using http://213.....
