.NK2 file missing Microsoft outlook 2007
We currently use 2007 exchange with virtual desktops. We recently had to delete the .NK2 file when we updated our exchange server. We now have to again delete the .NK2 file however it is nowhere to be found. We've done multiple searches even through DOS and we are looking for hidden files etc. Basically, it appears that the file just doesn't exist. We are using virtual desktops, however I do not believe this is the problem as once we log out of the virtual machines they are scrapped.
Any ideas???

Hello NEVAEHSIN,
The nk2 does not get recreate until you type an address into To field and send the mail. It does not get automatically recreated with blank address.
Hope this helps!

I've typed multiple address and they have been cached as the drop down comes up when i type letters however I can not find the .nk2 file anywhere on the local machine. Is is possible that it could be cached in the .pst file?
NK2 file is in a hidden folder. You have to search *.nk2 in hidden folders
Or better yet, unhide hidden files and folders in your system. In Windows XP, open Windows Explorer or any folder. Click on Tools > Folders Options > View. Check "Show hidden files and folders". If you want to see system files as well, uncheck Hide protected operating system files. Click OK.
In Windows Vista, open Windows Explorer or any folder. Click the Layout button (to the left of the Views button). Click Folder Options > View tab. Check "Show hidden files and folders". Click OK

No, that's impossible.

I've searched hidden folders and files. Even through DOS I went to c:\DOCUME~1\%username%\LOC ALS~1\APPL IC~1\MICRO S~1\Outloo k and typed command "DIR /A" and still there was no .nk2 file. I'm not a "novice" to computers and figure I'm skilled enough to find a hidden file however this file is not found anywhere. I've also used search and searched hidden files and folders, to no avail. I also created test.txt files and made them hidden to see if they would show up and they did.
We are running windows xp pro on virtual desktops. Our virtual machine software is VMware. Our email is also ran through 2007 exchange server.

Make sure in Folder View, the option to hide common extensions is turned OFF.

Still can't find it... I'm convinced that it doesn't exist - could it be because of our virtual desktop running from an Active Directory? Our profiles (My Documents / My Favourites / Desktop) are the only thing that is saved when we log off - everything else is "vaporized" when the user logs off. Our email runs through an exchange server. Could the NK2 file be getting stored somewhere else???

Well, I found it, with an advanced search... in C:\DOCUME~1\%username%\APP LIC~1\MICR OS~1\Outlo ok... I don't know why I couldn't find it before... THANKS!
NEVAEHSIN, glad you found the .NK2 file.
Thanks, I had exactly the same problem. An advance search located the NK2 file for me. I am glad to have landed on this post :)

I guess I don't understand the problem. You need to delete the .nk2 files and they are already gone. Isn't that what you want?
