The folder"FOLDERNAME" isn't accessible The folder may be located in an unavailable location, protected with a password, or the filename contains a / or \ outlook

Using Outlook 2007 I receive the following  message when trying to access a certain folder (\\server\docs) on the network.

The folder"FOLDERNAME" isn't accessible. The folder may be located in an unavailable location, protected with a password, or the filename contains a / or \ outlook

is anyone familiar with this error?. it happens when trying to attach a file

If i remember correctly, you cannot attach an entire folder without first compressing it.  Right click the folder > Send To Compressed Folder.  Then try to attach that zipped folder.

Thanks to both of you guys for quick replys.

i took a look at 898853. It seems to applying to saving files. Supposing that is also applies to file being accessed, for example opened.

Method 1 is not an option as its usually shared folders that are being accessed.
Method 2 the file is located on a WIndows server 2003 at the moment.
Method 3. Dont think this applies to opening files.

I should also mention that this worked fine up until few days ago when certain Windows Updates were installed .


@ rbudj. What we are trying to do here is open a file that's inisde folder. We' d want to click on a folder first to get to that file.  I'm not actually trying to send the folder, just the file in it

after checking the versions:

the file versions on both server 2003 and xp supercede the version which the bug applies to according to MS. Is it safe to say what we have installed on the server and the client, that the solution to the problem lies somwehere else ?
