We cannot send e-mail to the branch offices from the main office where the SBS2003/Exchange 2003 server is located. They are returned immediately. Our Server's domain name is entirely different, i.e. atlxyz.local. I ran the internet/e-mail wizard (we have 2 NICs) and it asked about our registered E-Mail Domain name, I gave it adamsbroinc.com. Some of the Branch Offices users have user accounts on our Server for remote access.
One instance is we use Microsoft Fax and need to forward faxes to branch offices. Upon sending the fax via e-mail it is returned immediately with the following:
Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.
Subject:

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:
Chris Parsons on 3/15/2009 7:35 PM
The e-mail account does not exist at the organization this message was sent to. Check the e-mail address, or contact the recipient directly to find out the correct address.

Do you have a server in each branch office? Are they a member server on the SBS domain?
How are your client computers at the branch offices connected to Exchange server? Are you using RPC over HTTP, POP3, IMAP?

I'm glad you responded with some of your comments. We previously had an SBS 2003/Exchange Server, same setup except (1 NIC) and we had no problems sending e-mail to the branches.
The branches have a user each (presently) who connect via VPN (CBeyond) to update a database. The branches do not have a server, only workstations, WinXP Pro.
I have to address users at the branch offices connecting to the Exchange server, so far no luck trying Exchange Anywhere, however not much effort thus far, (new server and that has been on the backburner).
As stated previously our SBS Server's domain is ABIATL01 and our registered e-mail domain is adamsbroinc.com (not quite the registered name). For whatever reason we can't send to users who have the e-mails, user@adamsbroinc.com.
You don't have a problem sending emails to "branch offices" because all of your email is on your exchange server. The problem you are having is that the email client on the computers IN the branch offices aren't connecting. AND for some reason, their email accounts (on your SBS) aren't receiving emails.
What program are you using to access your emailboxes on the SBS? Are you using Outlook?
Can your users at the HQ (Where the SBS is) connect and send/receive emails correctly? What program are they using to access their email box?
When you put the new server in that has 2 NICs - did you replace/remove the firewall? Is your internet router connected directly to the SBS?
On your SBS, can you please open a command prompt and run the program 'ipconfig /all' and post the output?

I have the SBS 2003, Firewall disabled currently, CBeyond has a managed Firewall which I access via Browser and configure. The Branch offices are using Outlook 2007 configured for POP... not Exchange (yet). They do not belong to the main office domain.
There will be only a couple of users at each branch who will need Exchange access. The secretaries who access the main office server via VPN, I did not create an Exchange mailbox for. They are the primary users (work horses) who we need to forward faxes, e-mails etcs to for distribution at the branches.

I am confused:
If you have an SBS server and you ran two wizards Points 2 and 3 (assuming this is SBS2003) in the To do list and you created all your users needing an email address with the add user wizards...that's all you 'd have to do to be able to send emails to those users. You can check that from the SBS in http://companyweb on the remote email tab.
Send a message to that user and logon to their remote email box with their username and password and see if you get that email.
This will tell you if exchange is configured properly.
Now for access to those emails from remote machines:
Try RWW first: https://FQDN/remote and see if they can logon to that. They can use OWA to get their emails fron the RWW.
Please also note that your remote sites need to be on a diffrent subnet that the server subnet.
Now for POP:
4 requirements:
1>The POP service has to be set to start automatically in services and has to be started.
2> In exchange system manager>your server>protocols>pop: Pop3 virtual server has to be started
3>In Interconnection Wizard (Point 2 in the TO DO List) you have to allow POP traffic.
4>Port 110 has to be open on the router hanging of the SBS.
