Outlook Web Access Routing
Hi guys,

I have an Exchange 2003/2007 co-existance environment.  Everything is working fine with the exception of OWA.

Those who still have a 2003 mailbox can connect to OWA as normal, but those on 2007 cannot.  It simply says the page cannot be displayed.

ActiveSync works fine for 2003 users, but 2007 users receive error 0x85010014.

I have confirmed that OWA 2007 works fine directly, even over the Internet.  SO it would appear that Exchange 2003 is not routing 2007 users correctly.

Where can I check what address the routing is sending 2007 users?

Nb: SSL certificates are confirmed as working

you are trying to access owa through what server?

a 2007 cas can redirect to both 2k3 and 2k7 mailbox servers however an exchange 2003 frontend can only be used with exchange 2003 mailbox server

We are trying to access a 2007 mailbox via 2003.  I presumed that 2003 would detect and forward 2007 users to the 2007 server automatically.  I say this because when we try to access a 2003 user via 2007 we experience the following error:

"Outlook Web Access could not find a mailbox for ASTRAEUS\(Username)"

Let me try to explain this in another way

1) An exchange 2003 Front end server can only be used with exchange 2003 mailbox servers

2) An exchange 2007 CAS can be used with both exchange 2003 and 2007 mailbox server

3) An Exchange 2007 server acting as BOTH CAS and Mailbox can only be used with 2007 mailbox server

So my best guest is that in your case your 2007 CAS is also acting as mailbox server

That's correct.  We're planning on migrating fully, from 2003 to 2007.  We will not be able to do this in one go over night, so we need to maintain OWA access, seemlessley for our users.

And this cannot be done, simply because one machine is performing both roles?

Yep, as i previously said an exchange 2007 box acting as CAS and MAILBOX will not be able to server an exchange 2003 mailbox server.

I haven''t found that documented anywhere but this is what I've noticed from the many migration i've done

A real shame it cannot be as simple as I had hoped for.

On a side note, we will not be doing this but it is the solution to the scenario.

Instead, we will be making the transition by making the 2007 publically available and having users go to the different OWA site while we migrate them.  Once done, our internal routing will switch the the 2007 server and we will then be able to use the old OWA URL for the 2007 server.
