Probably what is happening is that you are being offered one of two options of output format: &nbsp;Image or Text. &nbsp;PDF format is what they are probably referring to as &quot;text&quot;.<br />
<br />
To properly edit and resave a PDF document you need Adobe Acrobat (not Acrobat Reader), or the PDF editing retail addons for other PDF viewing applications like the free Foxit pdf reader.<br />
<br />
Of course, it is possible to scroll over text in the viewer's PDF reading window, do an Edit &gt;&nbsp;Copy, and paste into Notepad. &nbsp;The formatting is sometimes quite strange though.

Before you commit yourself to looking for one specific software application, I would urge you to see what came on the CDs with the scanner. &nbsp;You may have to look no further than what you already have available. &nbsp;If that happens to be ScanSoft Omnipage, and if it works for you, then that's fine.<br />

Another option you may not have considered is &quot;Microsoft Office Document Imaging&quot; available in Microsoft Office 2003 onwards.<br />

No, sorry, it's not even a classic type installer package. &nbsp;It's just a Winzip self-extractor that copies files to the preset program folder and creates very few registry entries. &nbsp;There is no help file, and I can't see enough of the resources in the *.exe files to get an idea what the user options might be.<br />

I would have assumed that the relevant setting would be something like a button to &quot;Choose external pdf viewer&quot;, and you would browse to:<br />
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader x.x\Reader\AcroRd32.exe<br />
<br />
