Newer Version of Word Documents

Hello! I have been unable to open newer version of word documents despite, downloading the MS Compatibility Pack. I am running on a Windows XP system. At this time, the temporary solution is saving the document in a different file format -- I am assuming that there is a solution to this. Thanks.

I am using Office 2003, and the document was created using Office 2007. The exact error message is:

Microsoft Office Word
Because this file was created in a newer version, it cannot be converted to a format that you can work with. However, the following items have been affected:

- Features that do not exist in this version have been removed.
- Layout and the ability to edit certain features have changed.

Thanks.

try downloading this program and installing.

it may be the one you already have but it also may not.....

if you've already done it, try again. I might just kick it into gear. - also restart pc BEFORE opening any files after install..

The Microsoft Office compatibility pack for word, excel, and powerpoint 2007 file formats do NOT work. I have tried re-starting the pc after installation, and still running into the same problem. Thanks.

The pack does work for those file formats, we used it prior to upgrading to Office 2007 for 50+ users.
Where did you download the comp. pack from?
Have you tried a new download of the app?

I have downloaded the compatibility packs from Microsoft, google, and the hyperlinks listed above - which point back to the Microsoft link. I do agree and in the past have used the compatibility pack to resolve this issue - and I am not sure why in this instance it does not work. Thanks!

I had the same problem and it would not work in the ms compatibility pack but for giggles I then used the Microsoft Work 6-9 Converter and it worked for me. Give it a try.

Hello! I tried the latest possible solution, and it does not work either! I also ran windows updates just in case, and no luck.
