DVD/CD drive Issues after downgrade to XP from Vista
I have completed downgrading a Dell M1330 from Vista SP1 to XP SP3. I have installed all of the necessary drivers except for the biometric fingerprint reader. Everything seems to be working fine except the DVD/CD Drive. When I tried to load Office 2007 it makes a short buzzing noise and doesn't began the install. It will play audio cds but makes a loud noise during playback. The Drive is a Matshita DVD+RW UJ-857G. It is possible this is not related to the downgrade but I am curious if anyone has had similar symptoms.
Noise from the drive spinning up is ok it shouldn't be excessive but can be audible.

It is not reading CD at all, now....Strangely, it is reading DVDs and playing them without the abnormal noises. I put in an Audio CD and it just made the buzzing noises and then nothing. It does not read anything being on the 2007 cd.
Are you sure you have the drivers installed properly? Check Device Manager to ensure it isn't marked with an !.
Also is the disk just damaged beyond reading? Try it in another machine.

No ! in the device manager, CD plays fine on my Desktop.
Here is a long shot are the CDs that are not working of the - type instead of the + type. I had an issue a long time ago with buying the wrong writeable media for my pc. If its the original ones from MS then I haven't a clue what could be wrong.

It is a commerical Audio cd: "Tom Waits", the other one I have tried is the Office 2007 disc. This is a weird problem...Usually it is the DVD that doesn't work. Thanks for trying...I have been searching for a driver or firmware online for this model but have been unsuccessful. I was thinking that maybe by reinstalling it might clear up the problem.

I am running the diags...

Passed all diags..I was able to play a resource CD and now it is playing a different music CD. I am at a loss as to why it will not play the Office 2007. I am copying it to a jump drive and will try to download it that way.

The auto run feature may be turned off in the OS for that drive. D:\setup.exe or something like that.
