Windows 2008 Cluster maintenance

We are trying to decide how to best maintain our Windows 2008 cluster running SQL2005. For node maintenance you can Pause a node OR you can actually STOP the cluster service on that node. When do you use PAUSE versus stopping the cluster service when doing maintenance for these items: OS patches, driver patches, SQL patches, hardware firmware updates, hardware upgrades, LUN size increase, SQL configuraiton changes? ... AND WHY (use Pause over stopping the cluster service).
If you PAUSE a node, it prevents failover TO that node.
Thank you,
