Citrix Acsess Essentails xternal Access Problem

We have a problem with external access. When I try and start the Citrix XTE Server service I get the following error in the event log :

'The description for Event ID ( 3299 ) in Source ( Citrix XTE Server ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: The Citrix service named, Citrix XTE Server, reported the following error: >>>, Unable to open logs, , , , , .'

I have done a lot of reserch on the error and tried all the other fixes including making sure correct permisions are setup the the citrix directoryand made sure none of folders are set to the hidded attribute as suggested on the citrix forum. I think I now know what the problem is but I don't know how to fix it.

Orignaly the setup consited of a domain controller with the host name of' SERVER1' and another server running citrix with the host name of 'EBCITRIX'.

The domain contoller has now been replaced and now has a host name of 'SERVER-01' When I open quick start and go to terminal server licening it trys to connect to SERVER1 what does not exist on the network anymore. I think this is where the problem lies ?

Can you help me resolve this situation?

First I would resolve the TS License issue:
Start > Run > tscc.msc
Server Settings
License server discovery mode
Set it to Use these license servers
in the box type your new license server (SERVER-01)
Hit OK - Reboot.

If it starts after this great, otherwise:

Second I would go into C:\Program Files\Citrix\XTE\logs and delete everything here (*.pid, *.log) try starting the service after that.
If that doesn't work, after the next time around check the newly re-created C:\Program Files\Citrix\XTE\logs\error.log and see if it points to the cause there.

Hi pfcjoker thaks for the quick reply....

Ok ...first of all in tscc.msc the license server was set to local host, when I try to change the licence server to SERVER-01, it tells me's it's not a valid 2003 licence server.  (NOTE : SERVER-01 is a 2008 standard edition server).

Also I noticed at the bottom of the terminal services licence discovery box server1 is in the 'In Enterprise role' box and it is grayed out and can not be changed.
Did you make sure your 2008 license server has 2003 client access licenses (CALs)? 2008 CALs will not work for a 2003 server.

Right made a little progress.

I've just run Ntdsutil.exe and cleaned up all the metadata what was left from the old DC and also delated all DNS records.  (Looks like it failed being domoted and had not been fully removed from AD).

This has stopped the error message when opening up terminal servvices lincence manager in the Citrix quixk start.

I've been told off the guy who setup Citrix on this server that the licensing server should be set to local host (This is a 2003 box).  This is how it was originally setup.

So now all I have to do is get the Citrix XTE Server service started but I'm still getting the same error message in the event log.

I looked in C:\Program Files\Citrix\XTE\logs and it's already empty.
Try running mfcom /RegServer at a command prompt - then try starting the services again.

Also have you confirmed the Citrix License server is running with no errors - and that the server is pointing to the Citrix License server?

Still no joy!

The Citrix Licence server is running with no errors.

I've also just noticed that C:\Program Files\Citrix\XTE\conf\httpd.conf is empty ?

Unfortunately we don't have another server what we can copy the httpd.conf from.
Ouch, I think sadly you may have to contact Citrix Support, sounds like they may have to get into your server and try and repair the XML service.

I found a website with the contents of the httpd.conf, copied and pasted it into our blank one, saved and the Citrix XTE Server Service started.

External access is not working yet but at least I'm a one step closer.

I'll update tomorrow.

Thanks for all the help so far.
Good to hear. At least the major issue with the XTE service is resolved.

Right we are up and running and our client is happy.   After I sorted the XTE service I realised that the DNS was pointing to the wrong public IP address, I changed this and now it's working great.

pfcjocker thank you very much for all your help.
