reinstall window 2000

I have a CD which has a big 386M file.  I like to reinstall window 2000 and clean everything.  But, when I start my PC, it goes to the logon window so I think my CD is not a boot CD.  So, How to reinstall window 2000 ?   Thanks.

Does that big file have the extension .iso?
That means that someone messed up burning the CD. Iso files have to be burnt as images, not as data.
The easiest way to solve this would be to copy the iso file to your hard drive, download the free tool Imgburn (http://www.imgburn.com) and use it to burn the image to disk.

But careful: this means that your install CD most likely is not an original Microsoft medium. It either comes from a backup copy or was downloaded from the internet.

You should also mind the fact that for re-installing your operating system, it is not enough to have an OS installation CD. You will also need a CD with drivers for your mainboard and its components (usually called "Mainboard Utility CD" and distributed together with a computer when you buy it), and you will also need drivers for your third party peripherals, like network card, graphics card and sound card, for instance.
Make sure you have those drivers before you start re-installing.

ps:

Of course, my above comment presupposes the fact that your computer, in its BIOS, is correctly configured to boot from CD.

I have read lots of document and found my best solution is to pay $30 and have someone else to reintall for me so I don't need to spend hours to dig.  It does get complicated and there are many if else cases.
