You can examine the installed files using Windows Explorer and see what dates they show.  In some cases they will show install dates which you can use.

Better is to examine the Desktop icons again using Windows Explorer if they were created.  Look at the folder under the username\Desktop where username is the name of the installer.  The icons there will show the modified date.  You can use that as the install date.

Also examine the menus.  Look at the folder username\Start Menu and look at the dates the folders under that were created.  This will give you a good idea.

Also examine the Administrator\Start Menu and the All Users\Start Menu as well.

Is that the only way to check. It is too time consuming to do for all applications.
Does windows not keep a record ?

Not that I'm aware of.

If you use the Start Menu method you'll get a list of applications (folder for the menu that the application is in) and date installed.
