SMS 2007 Upgrade "Advanced Client"

Good day,

I am in the process of upgrading our SMS 2003 to SCCM 2007 and see that one of the requirments is to remove the client on each users machine.

Can some tell me why this needs to be removed. I am aware that the old client will not work with SCCM 2007, but by not removing this will it cause serious problems?

Cant i just install the SCCM 2007 client on everyones machine when i do the upgrade?

Could someone please let me know if the negative results of leaving the SMS client on everyones machine and doing the upgrade.

Much thanks.

I dont know much about SCCM2007 but I did help with the upgrade of SMS to SMS2003. Im guessing the removal of the previous client is important because there may be some conflicts between the new and old software. I know this was the case with moving to 2003 advance client. For what its worth if they are recomending removing the old client I would probably do it.

You may be able to get the new clients installed on the machines without removing the old one but you are taking a risk that you could have a failed deployment which leaves your computers in a situation where neither SMS 2003 or SCCM 2007 is working.

If you alread have the 2003 client installed it should be pretty simple to advertise the uninstall package from the SMS console. I have uninstalled the SMS 2003 client and it never really gave me an issue.
