Exchange 2000 had a notification after mail cleanup ran, why not exchange 2007 and MRM

We recently migrated from exchange 2000 server to exchange 2007 server. Previously, we had the mailbox cleanup run on e2k and it would purge anything older than x days from the mailboxes. When it did this, it sent a nice email to both the user and the sysadmin saying x number of messages were processed, deleted, skipped, etc. I have now setup the same type of purge using MRM in e2k7, but there is no email feature that I can see. Please help as the users would love this feature back.

I believe it was removed. No idea why. This question came up before, but I cannot find it. It just happens now.

Well I did some research and found that by enabling the MRM logging, i can get a log with the deleted items (or any other action taken) created as a tab delimited file. From there I will need to parse that file and then count the number of deleted records and then save as another log file. Then I can email that to the user. Wow, WTF happened to the ease and use part of Exchange?

A lot of stuff was cut from the product because it wasn't used or no one paid any attention to it. I believe this was one of those things.
Exchange 2007 was basically a complete re-write, so every new feature was basically written again - that means some things were dropped.

we are working on a little java utility that will parse the file and then create individual summary files that can then be emailed to the end users. this will replace that functionality. As the saying goes, if you want something done right....
