Microsoft Exchange Information Store Will Not Start

Hello,  I am Running Windows 2003 R2 x64 with exchange 2007.  Exchange was working fine until I tried to install AVG Email Server.  In the setup it froze at restarting the MSexchangeIS service.  Now the MSExchangeIS service will not start and neither will the DTC service.  Any ideas?

Try going into regedt32 and look at the permissions for the following key:HKLM\software\classes\SVCID.  If they are missing, reset them and try starting the DTC again.

in the registry you can tell the Exchange IS not to use a virus scanner.  If the AV dll has problems, Exchange can't access it, and its enabled in the registry, the information store won't start.

To disable <insert usual warning here about modifying the registry, backing it up before hand, do at own risk, etc>

Using regedit navigate to here:

Change "Enabled" to 0

Now go to services and start the Exchange IS.

Post if you still have problems.

Thank you for your quick response.  I had come across another article on the VirusScan entry, looked for it and it wasn't there.  I then thought that perhaps AVG had made some entry for an ad-in to Exchange that couldn't find, and thats why it wouldn't start.  So I reinstalled the AVG Email Server.  I still could not start it.  After about 15 min had passed the MSExchandeIS service started on its own.  Email is now back up and working.  No idea what happened, why it started, and why it would start before.(It had 8 hours to do so overnight.)  However, the DTC service still will not start.  I tried resetting the log.  No joy.  There are permissions set for the SVCID key, but are they right?

As an update to the DTC Service-
I was able to get it started by editing the permissions of HKLM\Software\Microsoft\MSDTC by giving the 'NETWORK SERVICE' account 'Set Value' and 'Create Sub Key' permissions.  I uninstalled then reinstalled the DTC service by typing 'MSDTC -uninstall', 'MSDTC -install'.

rbdnz's solution worked perfectly. AVG9 was recently installed and after changing the VirusScan\Enabled value to 0 MSExchangeIS service started immediately on the first try.  Here is the event log entry for reference since it is different from the initial report:
