I have a fire wire cable attached to my mom's imac that connects to my sony mini dv camera for capturing video.

My work just purchased a macbook pro for me and I'm wondering what port adapter I will need to connect my camera to my laptop while I''m on the road.

Thanks.

The MacBook Pro has a firewire port.

It does?  Is it the same firewire port as before or is it a different version?  It looks too small.  I only had an opportunity to see the laptop for a brief second as the tech guy is going to do his thing tomorrow.  I'll check it out.  Thanks.

See the side view of the MacBook Pro on this page with the ports labelled:

You should be able to get a proper cable at any computer or electronics store. Just take the picture on the link above with you.

Okay thanks, I guess I currently have  Firewire that's under Firewire 800.  I'm pretty new to all of the mac stuff. But lovin' it just the same.

Ended up getting a Firewire 800 converter so that it goes 9 pin to 4 pin.  It's amazing that one guy at a mac reseller store tried to convince me that the MBP doens't have a firewire port.  I needed to convert from Firewire 800 to Firewire 400.  Hopefully it works when I pick up my video camera later tonight.

Do you have any other firewire devices you can use to test the converter?
