mail is sent multiple times, using bdat command

when sending mail to al large number of e-mail addresses from our webserver, lots of receipients receive the mail multiple times. in the logfiles I can see that there are several attempts to send the mail all whithin a few seconds.

I get a lot of BDAT and RSET entries in the logfile before finaly I see the QUIT command

The mail has been sent 6 or 7 times by then

The size of the files is 50-80 kb, why does iis try to send the mail using bdat?

I hope someone has a solution!

If it scans mail messages then yes.
Server based email scanning was one thing identified as causing problems.
The reading of the email stream introduced latency in the transmissions which caused timeouts in the transmissions which affected the email communications since all the messages were being sent in a single stream.

From what I am reading it looks like something may be interfering with the email transmissions due to the BDAT streaming methodology (one connection sending multiple emails seperating using the BDAT command).

You can try disabling the BDAT and using basic SMTP commands ... http://www.tech-archive.net/Archive/Exchange/microsoft.public.exchange.connectivity/2006-09/msg00030.html  (The article claims its for IIS on Win 2K but they reference IIS 6 so I think it applies).

This might get rid of the problem.

Could it be the anti virus program that is interfering?
