Hi Experts,

After trying of deploying OCS 2007 R2 group chat server, I can't start the Office Communications server Audio/video conferencing service and the office communications web conferencing service on server. OCS was ok untill yesterday, and now i've got that error, i really don't know why.

Error 1053 cannot start the service, the service did not respond to start or control request in a timely fashion

Basically I did the following steps without any success:

First, I deactivated the OCS SE services (in particular order below)

A/V

Web Conf

Web Components

Front End

Second, uninstall OCS EE services (add/remove programs)

A/V

Web Conf

Front End

Third, wait for AD to replicate the changes (typically 15-60mins).

Fourth, reinstall OCS EE

Fifth, Deploy the pool, and install web components, etc

Sixth: Tried of activating the application from the OCS 2007 R2 tools and no luck

Any ideas.

I can see some errors from the event viewer as per below

Office Communications Server Web Conferencing Server could not be started

Message: Unable to load DLL 'PwdExpiryCheck.dll': The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E)
   at Microsoft.Rtc.PwdExpiryHelper.PasswordExpiryHelper.PwdExpiryCheckShutdown()
   at Microsoft.Rtc.Server.DataMCU.ServiceWorker.StartServer(String[] args)

Cause: Look in previous event logs for more information about this error

Any ideas?

Do you see any errors like below?  If so, deactivate and rebuild the OS on the OCS Server as WMI is probably corrupt.
Event Type: Error
Event Source: OCS Application Server
Event Category: (1055)
Event ID: 32008
Date:
Time:
User: N/A
Computer:
Description:
The Application Host failed to load an application.

I had to recreate the VM machine(OS, OCS, etc), also created a new pool with a different name and now is working OK.

Hi, I have the same problem.
A full reinstallation is not really an option.
Does anybody have a better idea ?

Could not connect to Active Directory to read configurations settings. Will retry in 30 seconds.

I had this error as well.  Fix for me was to apply the update package for Communications Server 2007 R2, Core Components: April 2009: KB967827
