its intels catch up to amd's hypertransport but its not yet up to hypertransport v3.0 thats why servers using amd opterons are on a par with intel xeons as the amd opteron servers where using hypertransport and the xeons where using fsb

The QPI replaces what is the Front Side Bus in older Core and Netburst Intel cpus.  It's basically a communication bus for the cpu, and is much faster than the old technology.
